Finding Your Own Voice

Today I will be talking about finding your own writing voice.

This is for all writers.

Okay, when you are writing, you want to be able to find your own voice. You don't want to copy someone else. You want to be, well, you.

I cannot stress how important it is not to copy someone else. Here is why...

*You will be accused of plagiarism and most likely punished in some way or another
*You will feel guilty as you write
*You will not sound good and your writing will not appeal to readers, since you are trying too hard to be someone else
*Everyone is different, and people can tell when you are not being you
*You have a life, you have a pen, you have a brain, you have words — use it
*Try to be yourself and forget anything you've ever read

When writing, try to figure out what it is you like to write about, and how you like to write it.

This CAN vary when writing. For example, you can be writing a school essay. You wouldn't write:

So yeah. Basically, this is how my life goes. OMG. LOL.

That is a super bad example, but this is generally how it goes. Also, change your style when texting, because people get bored of complete sentences. EXAMPLE:

Omg. Do ya want 2 see that movie tmrw?

Also, when writing a novel, you don't want to use any of those examples up above. I mean, you could, depending on the type of book you are writing, but it doesn't mean you have to.

Lastly, if you are writing a blog post or a review, you should find your own voice. This is me:

OMG! IT IS SO AMAZING!!!!!!!!!

Actually, I never use OMG, generally, except on rare occasions, but I LOVE CAPS, and exclamation points are to die for :)

When trying to find your voice, what I like to do is start a free-write, which I have blogged about. Please read that post after this one, because it is really helpful. Basically, just write about anything you want however you want, and that voice will come to you. JUST BE YOU.

So the general message of today's post is:

YOU NEED TO BE YOU. BE YOU.
