Creating a Pen Name

Today I will not be talking about a form or writing, or a form of reading. Instead I will be talking about how to create a pseudonym for your writing.

A pseudonym is a pen name for when you are writing. A pen name is when you create a name other than your real name to put on your piece of writing. This mostly only works on published works, but this can work on essays, unless it is for school. I mean, you could do it for school, but your teachers might not know who that is unless you tell them :)

Anyways, there are many famous pseudonyms. Here are some examples:

*J.K. Rowling - Robert Galbraith
*Benjamin Franklin - Mrs. Silence Dogood
*Charles Lutwidge Dodgson - Lewis Carroll
*Eric Arthur Blair - George Orwell
*Samuel Langhorne Clemens - Mark Twain

As you can see, some people are more known by their pen names than by their real names. Pseudonymous Bosch, the author of The Secret Series even changed his name as a spin-off of the word Pseudonym itself.

When trying to come up with a pen name for yourself, you should know one thing: pick something like you. Here are some ways to pick a pen name:

*Try to pick something creative
*Pick something that is you, but not you
*Pick something that shows who you are

If you are female, you can make your pen name male, or if you are male, you can change your pen name to a female name. You can create something wild and wacky. Try your best to pick something that you are interested in.

Lastly, don't worry about what other people say! Be yourself and pick your own name, despite what your friends or family may say. Who knows? One day your pseudonym could become one of the most famous names on the charts!

Please comment below if you have anything you would like to add, or if you would like to say something about a different person's pen name. I do know of MANY others, but these are ones that most people have heard of.

Thanks for reading! MIC ;)
